When I watched the courage and the challenge of filming the lives of this war ridden village I was filled with admiration for Najeib.

The most astonishing was the attitude of people and children, they would be going about their normal chores or playing and all of a sudden they would run for shelter if they heard an explosion or some noise. Afterwards they would resume to the games as if nothing happened.

The war became part of the peoples daily routines. The dead bodies would lay on the ground, part of the landscape, people with no other choice than to go about their normal duties.

An interview  with The Director Najeib Khaja of the film My Afghanistan- Life in the forbidden Zone

Q: What were you thinking when the camera was filming you?
A: It was very stress full for me, with the females in the movie, the females of rural areas are not free, they are conservative, women don't talk on the camera, things can be misunderstood, it was extreme situation. she had already crossed the border line by speaking on the camera and then speaking to a foreigner and a journalist. Other thing other thing was the war, there was military everywhere and they are suspicious of every one.

Q. Did you actually go in to those conservative  kind of areas, isn't it dangerous?

A: Yes, I was trying to embedded with the Taliban and I was kidnapped,  I was there for a week but I managed to escape.

Tashi khan with theDirector Najeib KhanQ. You managed to escape?

A- Yes

Q. How did you escape?

A. There was a gmade an agreement with him, and we ran away with him.   wow!!!

Q. Did you have any government support when you were filming?

A. No

Q. You just went on your own?

A. Yes, on my own

Q. Were you not scared?

A. No actually not because I’m used to it. When you know how to work… you don’t get scared, but of course sometimes you get into situations when you get scared but generally I’m not scared. But sometimes something happens where you think, now it’s risky. Of course you get nervous in those situations.

Q. What is the result of all this, is it just going to carry on the way it is or do you see an end?

A. Yes, I hope…I hope there will be a supreme investigation, I hope … India, Pakistan, Iran. Actually make an agreement. Nobody should take advantage of Afghanistan for their own policy, for example India, Pakistan. So if they could… Move away from Afghanistan.

 Tashi .I’m from India
Najeib. I know

Q. Okay so India has to be involved, I think it’s more Pakistan…

A special message to the countries concerned

A. It is but Pakistan are quite paranoid, they are afraid of…So Pakistan needs international guarantee, they need India to sit at the table together with them and India needs them and Afghanistan needs both parties to sit there. In front of the international community make a bounding agreement about not using Afghanistan as a…
